Welsh Perimeter Charity cycle ride
"Starting on the 15th August I will be attempting to cycle the perimeterof Wales, starting and finishing in Bangor, Gwynedd. It is going to involve cycling approximately 800 miles, taking 8 days and I would like to raise just over £800. It would be fantastic if people could sponsor me - every little helps! My brother works in Vietnam for the charity 'Volunteers for Peace' (seehttp://www.vfp.org/vietnam.html) and so my target is £814.12 as this will be going to fund a new water pump for Bao Loc Disabled Farm inVietnam (see the attatched sheet for more details). Any extra money willdefinitely be put to good use! For example; £12 would buy a mattress inBao Loc orphanage. Also - if anybody would like to join me for any of the ride, they are more than welcome! I have attached brief details of my itinery. I will hopefully have to time to set up a facebook page with more details, fundraising and cycling progress."
Details on the project are available here:

Râs y Tren Caernarfon Race the Train
No he wont, they should have written their names legibly! My!! moan was with those runners who hadnt pre-entered,ignored the "race full" signs and hung around like herring gulls waiting 2 pounce on anyone with their arms in plaster or saying the magic words,'my friend isnt coming',next year will be pre-entry only or £50 on the night,b warned!
Thanx 2 all the helpers again who judging by all the compliments recieved made it a success, the highland railway 4 juggling their timetable,Express Motors,Gwynedd Council,Inigo Jones,Gilly and Ioan @ Cofi Roc and Tesco 4 once again providing goody bags for the 30+ juniors.
A fine win 4 Rob overall but how close was Izzy?,1 second off the record , next year lass!.Fair play on Travis Perkins manager Andrew Craig who stepped in at the 11th hour to run with the blind Elfyn Evans recording 25.51 and helping the 'Travis Trotters' take the K2 case of beer for 1st non athletic team, thats what its all about! If u didnt get your coaster on the night i carry them with me so see me!

A message from Sara Wilson - The Fresh Air Fund
This is a great way to participate in NYC's premier summer road race while helping Fresh Air Fund children. Please feel free to use anything from our site here:http://freshair.org/racers
Last summer's NYC Half-Marathon was a huge success and the Fresh Air Fund-Racers raised more than $125,000. We are also still in need of Friendly Town hosts for next month. Host families open their hearts and home to a NYC child who would not otherwise have the opportunity to escape the hot, crowded city streets.
Thank you so much,
Sara Wilson,The Fresh Air Fund sara@freshair.org

Pedol y Rhinogydd 2009
One of Wales' classic long fell races took place on Saturday down in the village of Llanbedr near Harlech. The Rhinog Horseshoe is a boisterous 15.5 miles with 5200feet of climbing and takes in the gnarly Rhinog Fawr, the relatively tame Rhinog Fawr, the soft Llethr and the deceivingly dodgy Moelfre. If any route needs reccying then this is the one and even though I'd reccied it 47 times over the last year I still managed to lose 5 minutes 28 seconds by taking an awful line off Rhinog Fawr down to Bwlch Drws Ardudwy.
The severity of the course was once again reflected in entry numbers - only the "true" mountain runners of Wales turned up for this one. There were only 39 finishers with two non-finishers, unfortunately one of those being Eryri's Maggie Oliver who pulled out due to a hand injury en-route. Moelfre took a scalp by leaving 12 stitches required on the head and a number on the leg of a Dark Peak runner. Another Dark Peak runner - Matt Hulley managed to finish the race in reverse as he ended up near Barmouth. The photos are a classic reflection of the race as 3 Eryri runners approach the last checkpoint coming off Moelfre from completely different directions! Other incidents were the 'marshalls' on Rhinog Fach directing runners straight off and down the most inaccessible scree slope in history and in the meantime losing 30 minutes whilst Frances Uhlman was lucky to come out with shoulders intact following a 15 foot slip on dodgy Moelfre.
Race winner was Martin Shaw of Mynydd Du breaking Lloyd Taggarts 2006 record of 2.50 with 2.41.
Eryri finishers were:
Math Roberts 2nd, 2.47
Scott Butterworth, 4th, 3.14
Paul Jenks, 6th, 3.16
Arwel Lewis, 8th, 3.20
Rory O'Donnell, 11th, 3.27
Ed Harmer, 12th, 3.28
Andrea Roberts - 1st lady and 16th overall, 3.42
Don W 25TH, 3.51
Ali Thomas - 1st vet 40 lady, 26th, 3.57
Alwyn Oliver, 28th, 3.57
Mike Blake, 29th, 4hrs
Emyr Davies, 33rd, 4.25
John Harold, 36th, 4.36
Definitely a race that everyone has to do once!
